Well who doesn’t love a great puzzle? Today, January 29th is actually National Puzzle Day!
Puzzles were originally created by European Mapmakers who would paste maps onto wood then cut the wood into smaller pieces. The first jigsaw puzzles was invented by John Spilsbury, a London engraver and mapmaker, way back in 1767. Mr. Spilsbury created the first jigsaw puzzle by painting a picture on a flat, rectangular piece of wood, and then cutting it into small pieces with a jigsaw.
Let’s look at some of the jigsaw puzzles available today…
There are so many jigsaw puzzles out there! So what to do with an old puzzle that you’ve mastered? Or a puzzle that you loved but have lost some of the pieces to? Turn them into DYI jewelry, of course!
Puzzles have a long history and it’s nice to know that there is a special day set aside to Celebrate the world of Puzzles!!
